Gatherings for evening festivals, weddings, games, and other outdoor events may attract mosquitoes from outside the treated area and necessitate short term control.  The use of repellents to protect areas where human activities occur is not a new concept in mosquito control.  It is however, one of the most overlooked methods of protection.  Part of the reason for this is the misconception that this particular method does not work.  Studies have proven that mosquitoes are attracted to odors and emissions such as perspiration and carbon dioxide.  A good repellent works by emitting a scent that not only masks human odors but that is also offensive to mosquitoes.  This scent will create a protective curtain around the treated area and cause mosquitoes to leave the area.
